Lingang New Area of Shanghai FTZ Promotes Development of Legal Services Sector

The Lingang New Area of the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone has recently announced a slew of new policies to boost the development of legal services. It will strive to create a world-class, rules-based business environment by opening the legal services sector in a more all-round way and at a higher level, promote the clustering of famous domestic and foreign legal services providers and high-end legal services professionals in Lingang and enhance its role as a one-stop shop for “litigation, mediation and arbitration” in commercial disputes.

The policies cover five aspects, including settlement award for legal institutions, financial support on office renting, safeguards and conveniences for talents and professionals, and awards for high-end legal services. These are applicable to domestic and foreign legal services providers and relevant institutions, including business organisations set up by domestic and foreign dispute settlement institutions in Lingang, law firms, and legal services organisations or institutions of notarisation, judicial appraisal and extra-territorial legal investigation.
