As Malaysian companies pursue new avenues for growth beyond their home market, Hong Kong offers a proven gateway to opportunities across Asia and beyond.
On 11 August, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will bring its flagship Think Business, Think Hong Kong (TBTHK) campaign to Kuala Lumpur, connecting Malaysian enterprises with business leaders, investors and professional services experts from Hong Kong to explore global business ventures.
A central theme of the campaign is to showcase the advantages of using Hong Kong as a platform for international expansion. As Asia's leading international financial and business centre and home to nearly 10,000 Chinese Mainland and overseas companies, Hong Kong provides Malaysian businesses with access to a deep pool of capital, world-class professional services and extensive international networks. Together, these strengths can help companies navigate new markets, attract investment and expand their operations globally.
The campaign will feature a full-day symposium comprising presentations on investment opportunities and discussions on RMB internationalisation, sustainability and green innovation, Hong Kong's role as an international financial and business centre, and healthcare solutions and innovations.
Alongside the symposium, some 30 Hong Kong service providers and start-ups will feature their innovative products and solutions in an exhibition zone, with a view to forging partnerships with Malaysian participants.
One-on-one business consultations and tailored business matching will be arranged between local enterprises and members of the 100-strong Hong Kong delegation, comprising officials, business leaders, innovators, start-ups and professional service providers from the finance, professional services, innovation and technology, environmental services, media and advertising sectors.
Hong Kong SAR Government Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau and Malaysian Minister of Transport YB Loke Siew Fook will be guests of honour at the opening ceremony.
Strong Malaysia-Hong Kong ties
The growing trade and investment ties between Hong Kong and Malaysia provide a strong foundation for deeper business collaboration. In 2025, Malaysia ranked as Hong Kong’s third-largest trading partner among ASEAN member states, while Hong Kong companies were the second-largest investors in Malaysia after Singapore, with cumulative investment stock reaching US$34.8 billion (HK$272 billion). The Hong Kong Stock Exchange recently added Bursa Malaysia as a recognised stock exchange, enabling companies listed on Bursa Malaysia to apply for a secondary listing in Hong Kong. This adds to the existing three recognised exchanges - Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.
Highlighting the solid economic relationship and growing business connectivity, HKTDC Regional Director of South East Asia & South Asia Leung Kwan Ho said: “As Malaysia strengthens its position as a regional hub for business, manufacturing and innovation, Hong Kong can serve as a superconnector and super value-adder, enabling Malaysian companies to realise their ambitions beyond the domestic market.”
He added: “We aim to attract more Malaysian businesses to leverage Hong Kong’s advantages to access opportunities around the world, particularly in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the wider China market, with more confidence.”
