Lighting and eco fairs wow crowds

TradeElectronics

Attendees expect sales growth, foresee impact of AI

Some 60,000 buyers from 150 countries and regions attended three trade exhibitions that recently closed in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition), the Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo, and Eco Expo Asia concluded on 2 November, bringing to a close of busy week of sourcing opportunities for players in the lighting and environment products and services industries.

The two lighting fairs attracted 3000 exhibitors and more than 50,000 buyers.

Apart from product displays and demonstrations, exhibitors also used the Fairs to launch new products and learn about market trends at workshops and seminars held across the four-day events.

Sales transactions were strong. Jason Yan from Hangzhou Sky-Lighting said that the number of buyers visiting his booth increased by 20-30% and he expected that orders will amount to around US$40-50 million.

A buyer from Canada, David Daniels, said he was planning to order over US$1 million in area and down lights, new model LED panel lights and LED tri-proof lights from new and existing Fairs’ suppliers.

This reflected the strong increase in interest from buyers from Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Italy and the Netherlands.

An independent survey of over 710 exhibitors and buyers at the lighting fairs revealed that 61% of respondents expect sales to grow in the next 12-24 months.

Regarding future growth, 61% of respondents said that artificial intelligence (AI) will drive growth in the industry, with many respondents (43%) believing energy-efficient lighting control will dominate, followed by home automation and smart lighting control systems (36%), wireless lighting control systems (27%) and outdoor smart security lighting systems (26%).

Coinciding with the lighting fairs, Eco Expo Asia showcased environmentally friendly products and services to buyers from the government, real estate, logistics, hospitality and retail sectors.

Hong Kong exhibitor Alex Huen from GMI Motors said: “Last year at Eco Expo Asia, we sold five vehicle sales amounting to HK$8 million (US$1 million). This year, we estimate an increase of 15-20% due to the more optimistic market sentiment.”

Eco Expo Asia drew many new buyer groups from Indonesia, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

A buyer from Indonesia Ruuth Sonnia Agustina said he was interested to procure 50 EV chargers worth up to HK$100,000 (US$12,000) from a Hong Kong company for charging stations his company was planning to build.

The exhibition drew over 300 exhibitors and over 8,500 buyers and was organised by HKTDC and Messe Frankfurt (HK) and co-organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government.
