China Regulates Cosmetics Efficacy Claims and Safety
12 May 2021
On 8 April, the National Medical Products Administration issued announcements covering new classification rules for cosmetics (No. 49 ), new evaluation standards for claims made about the efficacy of cosmetics (No. 50 ) and new technical guidelines for cosmetics safety assessments (2021 Edition) (No. 51 ). All of these took effect on 1 May.
Entities must provide supplementary information on the category codes and efficacy claims of their products through the cosmetics registration and record-filing information service platform. They must also upload abstracts relating to their product efficacy claims and submit simplified product safety assessment reports in accordance with the technical guidelines.
