China Releases Second List of Encouraged Generic Drugs

The National Health Commission , together with five other government departments, including the Ministry of Science and Technology , the National Healthcare Security Administration and the National Medical Products Administration , recently released a joint circular containing a second list of encouraged generic drugs (Guo Wei Ban Yao Zheng Han No. 93 [2021]).

Selection and presentation of arguments will soon be carried out on this list, which contains 17 varieties of drugs whose domestic patents are about to expire but which have not yet applied for registration renewal and are in short clinical supply (due to imperfect competition). These drugs include Arformoterol (an inhalation solution), Fluticasone Furoate/Vilanterol Trifenatate (powder for inhalation), Fluticasone Furoate/Umeclidinium/Vilanterol (powder for inhalation), and Clevidipine (an emulsion for injection).
