Guangdong Clarifies Provisional Reduction of Basic Employee Medical Insurance Premiums
13 March 2020
Guangdong has issued a clarification that its provisional reduction in insurance premiums, in response to the Covid-19 outbreak, only covers basic employee medical insurance and not other types of medical insurance, such as maternity and supplementary medical insurance. Enterprises that have completed premium payment registration, individually-owned businesses insured as entities, as well as various types of social organisations and private non-enterprise entities, are eligible for a 50% reduction in their corporate contributions to basic employee medical premium, in accordance with regulations. Individual contributions are not eligible for this reduction. State organs, public institutions and people taking out insurance as individuals are also not eligible for this benefit.
Full details can be found in the Circular on Further Clarifying Some Opinions Concerning the Provisional Reduction of Basic Employee Medical Insurance Premiums (Yue Yi Bao Han No. 62 [2020]), issued jointly by the Guangdong Provincial Healthcare Security Administration and the Guangdong Provincial Tax Service of the State Taxation Administration.
