New trade routes and green energy on the agenda

Listen

The Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference (ALMAC) on 18 and 19 November is expected to draw 2,000 participants from more than 30 countries and regions.

Organised by the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the conference is a major gathering for experts and players in the aviation, logistics and maritime sectors in Asia and will be attended by senior government officials from Mainland China, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

This year’s ALMAC will address the impact of major trends on the logistics service industry, including supply chain diversification, sustainability and green energy, and innovation and technology.

Sustainability has emerged as a paramount focus for businesses aiming to future-proof their logistics operations, while innovative technologies and digitalisation, such as AI, big data, robotics and drones, offer promising solutions to improve the efficiency of global supply chains.

Together with forums discussing these three major trends, ALMAC will feature some 20 thematic forums and workshops, including special sessions on air freight, shipping, supply chain management and logistics.

An overview session on the first day will explore the evolution of supply chains and value of prioritising investment in supply chains to deliver long-term benefits. Speakers on the topic include senior strategy and commercial leads from major logistics and consumer goods companies.

A panel on new trade routes will consider how supply chain disruptions have highlighted the vulnerabilities of relying on a single supply and distribution network. Experts from cargo terminals, shipping lines and logistics companies will share insights on how businesses are exploring new trade routes to minimise the impact of disruptions on operations and customers.

Another session will consider how the logistics and transport industries are transitioning to using low-emission energy sources with speakers from engineering, freight and energy companies sharing case studies of sustainable energy solutions and technologies.

A workshop on integrating halal practices across the entire supply chain process will provide practical tips on how businesses can achieve halal compliance.

90 exhibitors will showcase the latest supply chain management and logistics technology solutions. Three of Hong Kong’s major air cargo terminals will participate in the exhibition, together with other leading freight companies and shipping lines.

Business matching sessions will bring together shippers and service providers to create business opportunities and promote industry development.
