Eco Expo Asia, an annual showcase for the latest advances in green transformation and innovation, has adopted the theme  ‘Connecting the World for a Sustainable Future’ this year, reflecting the rising importance of environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations across investment, sourcing and supply chain management.

“Green transition has shifted from policy aspiration to market rule,” highlighted Silas Chu, Associate Executive Director for the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). “As global demand for ESG and green solutions continues to grow, Eco Expo Asia will bring together green technologies, innovative solutions and global business opportunities to help enterprises capitalise on the new prospects emerging from this transition.”

Jointly organised by the HKTDC and trade fair specialist Messe Frankfurt, with the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Environment and Ecology Bureau as a co-organiser, Eco Expo Asia 2026 will be held at Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo from 26 to 29 October.

The expo will centre on four key areas: Green Energy in Motion, Frontier Green Tech, Building for a Greener City and From Waste to Worth. It will also feature more than 30 forums and seminars, including the flagship Eco Asia Conference.

The gathering is also broadening its international reach, with first-time exhibitors from Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam lined up to attend this year.

Some 200 officials and representatives from Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Belt and Road and ASEAN organisations will also attend, further promoting cross-regional cooperation and exchange.

Meanwhile, the number of participating pavilions has risen to 18, including a first-time pavilion from Qinghai Province. A new ASEAN Pavilion will feature 13 greentech companies from eight member countries.

In addition, the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy will showcase marine environmental technologies and waste gas treatment equipment. The US State of Illinois is returning after several years, while Canada, Italy and the Netherlands will maintain their regular presence.

The HKTDC is also setting up a dedicated GoGlobal Connect Zone at Eco Expo Asia this year, to help Chinese Mainland environmental enterprises tap international markets through Hong Kong’s professional services.

Hong Kong’s strong reputation as a hub for ESG-related services is reflected in the HKTDC’s newly released ESG Index, which gave the city a 67.3 score this year, up from 64.2 in 2025, and well above the neutral threshold of 50, Mr Chu noted.

“ESG has evolved beyond a compliance requirement into a source of competitive advantage for companies,” he said. HKTDC’s full ESG Index 2026 report is available here.

Stakeholders from different sectors

This year’s Expo also dovetails with the Hong Kong SAR Government’s first Five-Year Plan, which was unveiled last month alongside this year’s Policy Address.

“It underscores our commitment to advancing Hong Kong’s green transformation, fostering green innovation, seizing the opportunities presented by the low-carbon economy, creating economic benefits and enhancing citizen well-being,” noted Vanessa Au, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Environmental Protection Department.

Hong Kong organisations will feature prominently across the expo. The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation will lead 11 start-ups to showcase local innovation, while the Hong Kong Pavilion, supported by the Environmental Protection Department and coordinated by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries, will feature 19 exhibitors presenting eco-friendly products, technologies and solutions. The Hong Kong SAR Government booth will highlight the city’s latest work in environmental protection and green development.

The Expo’s final day will be open to the public. This will include seminars on climate, environmental protection and food waste upcycling, as well as interactive workshops, to encourage the adoption of green lifestyles, while raising awareness of sustainability and environmental protection.
