ARTSHION competition designs on display at HKTDC Design Gallery

Inspired by paintings drawn by local students, emerging and renowned Hong Kong designers created avant-garde fashion pieces.

13 creations by 10 Hong Kong Design Institute students and three renowned Hong Kong fashion designers, as part of the ARTSHION 2024 Painting x Fashion and Image Design Competition, are on display at the HKTDC Design Gallery in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The 2nd edition of the competition, co-organised by ARTSHION and Hong Kong Design Institute, aims to promote an inclusive culture connecting all walks of life through art and fashion.

Themed “Joy, Love, Care”, this year’s competition features leading Hong Kong fashion designers and Hong Kong Design Institute students who created pieces based on paintings created by Arts With the Disabled Association Hong Kong members and Po Leung Kuk Yu Lee Mo Fan Memorial School students.

30 paintings out of 300 were selected for ARTSHION 2024 to provide inspiration to competition participants to create contemporary fashion pieces.

For his contemporary fashion creation, Hong Kong designer Andy Ho included different fictional characters and animals in his work to convey tolerance and inclusion.

HKDI student Robbie Tsui Tsz Ho created a colourful, eye-catching costume, which resembles a butterfly gracefully dancing, echoing the competition theme of joy.

The HKTDC Design Gallery organises thematic campaigns in collaboration with different Hong Kong artists, designers, brands and institutions to promote Hong Kong’s creativity, innovation and excellence in product design.

The creations are on display at our Design Gallery from 26 March to 9 April.

The selected 13 works will next be showcased at PMQ from 12 to 27 April. On the last day of the exhibition, the competition jury and public will select the 10 winners. Winning and shortlisted individual creations will then be featured in roadshows and fashion shows around Hong Kong.
