The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) set up the Hong Kong Fashion Pavilion at the third China International Consumer Goods Fair (Consumer Expo) and led 22 Hong Kong companies to the exhibition, promoting more than 50 high-quality brands of mid-to-high-end consumer goods, and expanding the huge domestic market.
The Consumer Expo at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center in Haikou City in the island province of Hainan in the middle of this month. Hong Kong companies participating in the Hong Kong Fashion Pavilion met mainland professional buyers. Construction of free-trade ports and the implementation of tax-free shopping measures for outlying island tourists brought opportunities. The 32,000 square kilometre island is nearly 30 times the size of Hong Kong.
The theme of this year's Consumer Expo was Share Open Opportunities, Create a Better Life Together to boost consumption recover and provide an effective platform for companies to expand domestic sales. The 10 hectare exhibition area hosted more than 3,300 consumer luxury brands from more than 60 countries. Offshore exhibitors included Italy, Spain and Poland which participated in the exhibition for the first time. Mr Wang Wentao, Minister of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, said at the opening ceremony: “The Consumer Expo brings together domestic and foreign exhibitors to showcase global consumer products. It is an important bridge linking domestic and international markets." The consumer fair brought companies from all over the world into the mainland market while promoting mainland consumer products to the world.
The HKTDC has been committed to helping Hong Kong companies expand the domestic market. This time, it will use the Consumer Expo platform to help Hong Kong companies integrate into China's development and introduce high-quality products to the mainland.
Peter Wong, HKTDC Regional Director Southern China, said: “The Consumer Expo is a national-level exhibition focusing on the promotion of consumer goods. It is also an important platform connecting Hong Kong and mainland China.” He continued: “Hong Kong brands are widely loved by mainland consumers and sell well all over the world; the establishment of the Hong Kong Fashion Pavilion at the Consumer Expo can not only promote Hong Kong brands, but more importantly, promote cooperation between mainland and Hong Kong enterprises. In previous exhibitions, we have assisted many Hong Kong companies to successfully develop domestic sales market.”
Hong Kong brands gather
The Hong Kong Fashion Pavilion helped companies expand domestic sales opportunities from two aspects of trade promotion (B2B) and exhibition retail (B2C). The pavilion included a series of well-known Hong Kong brands, such as Hong Kong’s leading food brand Maxim's and On Kee Seafood. Pavilion exhibits include food, health products, personal care products, fashion apparel and watches. The fashion-leading Jingyi (China) also exhibited internationally renowned brands FILA and ROMAGO.
Activities draw visitors
To introduce Haikou to the fashion in Hong Kong, the "Hong Kong Fashion Pavilion" brought a series of activities to help exhibitors promote high-quality products at different times. An interactive stage at the fairground let exhibitors hold more than 30 product introduction sessions, food tasting and interactive games with prizes.
"Treasure Hunting Hong Kong Fashion Pavilion" let visitors participate in treasure hunts. After collecting all treasures in the pavilion by scanning the QR code with their mobile phones, they had the opportunity to redeem fashionable gifts with Hong Kong characteristics; Hong Kong authentic snacks will be broadcast for a limited time every day. Including Crispy Egg Tart, Curry Fish Ball and Long Fragrant Milk Tea, exuding the unique charm of Hong Kong cuisine.
The State Council earlier this year cleared duty-free sales of certain products in Hainan Province from the beginning of this month. This further enhances the shopping experience of tourists in the islands. The number of duty-free goods has increased to 45, and the previous duty-free limit of Rmb8,000 (US$1,160) for a single good has been cancelled. For the part exceeding the duty-free quota and limit, the import tax of imported goods shall be levied according to the regulations.
Hainan Free Trade Port boosts investment
The Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce also released Guidelines for Overseas Investment and Investment in Hainan Free Trade Port at the end of last year to help enterprises further invest overseas through Hainan Free Trade Port policies and develop stably and healthily. The guide gives details on opportunities and regulations and details the investment approval and filing process. The Guide also introduces tax exemptions for overseas direct investment income for enterprises in the tourism industry, modern service industry, and high-tech industries established in the Hainan Free Trade Port.
