INDIA: Anti-Dumping Duties on Steel Products Temporarily Revoked
11 February 2022
India announced on 31 January 2022 a temporary suspension of anti-dumping duties on a number of steel products. The government withdrew duties on imported rods, alloy steel bars and flat steel products plated or coated with zinc or aluminium until 30 September 2022. The changes took effect on 1 February 2022.
Anti-dumping duties have been scrapped on rods and straight-length bars of alloy steel, mainly imported from China; as well as flat-rolled steel products coated or plated with an alloy of zinc or aluminium imported from China, Vietnam and South Korea. Also included in the duty relaxation is high-speed steel of non-cobalt grade imported from Brazil, China and Germany. Countervailing duties imposed on imports of certain hot-rolled and cold-rolled stainless steel flat products from China have also been permanently revoked. The Indian government also announced customs duties reductions on long, flat and semi-finished products of stainless steel, alloy and non-alloy, from 10-12.5% to 7.5%. Import duty exemption on steel scraps has been extended for another year to help smaller manufacturers.
