KENYA: New E-Commerce Platform Launched to Ease Import Trade
19 November 2021
An e-commerce platform allowing international markets access launched in Kenya on 9 November 2021. DUBUY.com enables traders to more easily import goods from the Middle East and East Africa, and provides notifications on border changes and regulatory information.
The wholesale e-commerce platform, developed by global port operator DP World, was launched into Kenya in collaboration with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), the Kenya Export Promotion & Branding Agency, National Bank, and African Salihiya Cargo Clearing.
DUBUY.com provides a trading gateway into Africa via DP World’s eight existing African port terminals. According to KNCCI President, Richard Ngatia, it will empower Kenyan businesses to digitally transform their operations; opens access to new markets and technology; and promotes trade in areas including technology, blue economy, transportation, aviation, manufacturing, mining, healthcare, and employment. Mahmood Al Bastaki, COO of Dubai Trade World said that the platform will help Kenyan businesses access global markets through DP World’s worldwide logistics network.
DUBUY.com’s Kenya launch follows its successful expansion in Rwanda earlier in 2021. Since activation, Rwanda received over 500,000 website visits from African sellers and buyers; built a community of more than 4,000 merchants; and saw particular success in automotive supplies and kitchen appliances.
