BANGLADESH: Import Taxes Cut on Covid Containment Products
08 June 2021
The government has waived import taxes on various emergency products and raw materials needed in the production of RT-PCR test kits and other medical items deemed essential for the country’s moves to counter the domestic spread of the Covid-19 virus.
In more specific terms, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced that all approved importers will be exempt from import duty, supplementary duty, regulatory duty, value-added tax (VAT), advance tax and advance income tax on the import of 46 emergency products and 16 varieties of raw material required for the manufacturing of RT-PCR test kits, subject to said items being improved for import by the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA).
These exemptions will run until 30 June 2022, while the existing duty waiver on the import of personal protective equipment and related raw materials has now been extended to same date.
