China Signs First AEO Mutual Recognition Pact with African State
11 June 2021
On 25 May, the General Administration of Customs signed an agreement on the mutual recognition of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status with Uganda, the first such arrangement signed with an African country.
Mainland AEOs trading with Uganda will enjoy customs clearance facilitation measures in the country. These include: lower inspection rates of imported goods; prioritised customs inspection for goods that require physical inspection; communication with designated customs liaison officers on clearance issues; and prioritised customs clearance after suspension and resumption of international trade. This will greatly reduce operators’ trade costs, including port, insurance and logistics charges, and enhance their international competitiveness.
