China Announces Five-Year Import Tax Exemption to Support Popular Science Development

According to a circular jointly issued by the Ministry of Finance , the General Administration of Customs and the State Taxation Administration on 9 April (Cai Guan Shui No. 26 [2021]), all science museums, natural museums and planetariums open to the public are exempt from import duties and import VAT when importing the following items during the 14 ^th Five-Year Plan period (between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2025):

• Copies of and hard drives carrying science films and TV shows which are imported in connection with broadcast rights purchased from abroad for own use, as well as copies of and hard drives carrying science films and TV works imported through other means for own use.

• Popular science equipment, exhibits, special software and other items for own use that domestic manufacturers cannot produce or meet performance requirements.
