Measures for Supervision of Online Transactions Take Effect in May
07 April 2021
On 15 March, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) issued a set of measures for the supervision and administration of online transactions (SAMR Order No. 37 [2021]). Under the measures, providers of online services such as social media and live video streaming that also provide business premises, product browsing, order generation, online payments and other online transaction platform services will be treated as online transaction platform operators.
These measures will come into force on 1 May, superseding a set of administrative measures for online transactions promulgated by the former State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) on 26 January 2014 (SAIC Order No. 60 [2014]).
