China Strengthens Management of Internet User Public Accounts

On 22 January, the Cyberspace Administration of China unveiled its revised Provisions on the Management of Internet User Public Account Information Services, which will take effect on 22 February 2021. The provisions will further strengthen the supervision of internet user public accounts and promote the healthy and orderly development of public account information services.
The revised legislation makes clear provisions for information content on public account information service platforms. It sets out primary responsibilities for public account managers, creators and operators in the production of information content, and clear guidelines covering areas such as the operation and management of public accounts, identity authentication, industry self-discipline and social supervision.
