Guangdong to Build National Pilot Zones for Innovative Development of Digital Economy

The Guangdong provincial government recently issued a work plan for building national pilot zones for the innovative development of its digital economy. Under the plan, Guangdong envisages it will achieve tangible results, including making the Greater Bay Area a global exemplar, in the space of three years. The value-added of Guangdong’s digital economy is expected to surpass RMB6 trillion by 2022, accounting for over 50% of its GDP.
The main tasks under the plan include: building national benchmarks for new digital economy infrastructure; forming a best-in-class mechanism for the efficient allocation of data resources; taking innovation in the digital economy to a new level; and promoting digital transformation in key sectors.
