15-Year Master Plan for Dongguan Port Released
15 December 2020
A 15-year master plan for Dongguan port was recently released by the Dongguan Municipal People’s Government. It revises the functions of Dongguan port, the utilisation of shoreline resources, the functions of the port area and the distribution of land and water areas in order to tap new opportunities arising from the Belt and Road Initiative, the Greater Bay Area, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong science and technology innovation corridor and other projects.
Under the plan, a passenger marina will be built in Dongguan port. The port will also handle the trans-shipment of bulk goods and expand comprehensive shipping services. The plan calls for the accelerated development of modern logistics and the construction of a large specialised terminal when the time is right to reduce overall logistics costs in the region.
It also calls for efforts to accelerate the development of advanced manufacturing, optimise the development pattern, raise the level of national demonstration bases for new industrialisation, and enhance collaboration and connectivity among industries in the Greater Bay Area.
