Hong Kong and Macao Lawyers Allowed to Practise in Nine GBA Mainland Cities
23 October 2020
The General Office of the State Council issued on 22 October a circular on the launch of a pilot scheme allowing practising lawyers in Hong Kong and Macao to obtain qualifications and engage in legal practice in the nine mainland cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) (Guo Ban Fa No. 37 [2020]). The scheme allows legal practitioners in Hong Kong and Macao to play a professional role in the development of the GBA. Eligible Hong Kong and Macao practising lawyers will be able to practise in specific areas of mainland law upon passing a qualifying examination and obtaining the practice qualifications in the nine GBA mainland cities. The scheme will run for three years starting from 5 October 2020.
