China Signs Free Trade Pact with Cambodia
21 October 2020
On 12 October, Chinese Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan and Cambodian Minister of Commerce Pan Sousa represented their governments in signing the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) during a video conference held in Beijing and Phnom Penh simultaneously.
For trade in goods, China will eliminate tariffs on 97.53% of Cambodia’s exports to China. Of this, 97.4% of the goods will enjoy zero tariff as soon as the agreement takes effect. In the next step, China and Cambodia will proceed with their respective domestic ratification procedures to promote the early implementation of the agreement.
The signing of the FTA followed the conclusion on 20 July of free trade agreement negotiations between the two governments that began in January 2020.
