CAMBODIA: Garment and Footwear Workers Set for US$192 Minimum Monthly Wage in 2021
18 September 2020
As of 1 January 2021, the minimum monthly wage for workers in the country’s garment and footwear sector is set to increase to US$192. While this US$2 increase is the lowest rise in recent years, workers will still actually be paid more in the range of US$209-220 per month after factoring in a range of other benefits, including a US$10 regular attendance bonus, a US$7 monthly housing allowance and any applicable seniority payments.
The increase comes despite the National Council on Minimum Wages (NCMW) recommending a pay freeze in light of the negative economic consequences of the coronavirus outbreak. This was, however, overturned by the country’s Prime Minister, an intervention that has become an almost annual occurrence.
