Tianjin to Build International Shipping Hub
31 August 2020
The National Development and Reform Commission has recently issued guidelines on accelerating the construction of the Tianjin international shipping hub in north China (Fa Gai Ji Chu No. 1171 [2020]) to promote the co-ordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. A smart and green approach and an innovative intermodal system will be adopted to improve the business environment and build Tianjin port into a world-class smart and green port with reasonable layout, good system, efficient service and integrated port and regional development. The new Tianjin port will strive to become a maritime hub for the co-ordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and container transport to strengthen interactions and connections between sea channels and the China-Mongolia-Russia and New Eurasian Land Bridge economic corridors.
Tianjin port will co-ordinate with other ports of Hebei in its development. With focus on container trunk transport, positive efforts will be made to develop roll-on/roll-off, cruise and other transport functions for this international shipping hub. Relevant ports in Hebei will bolster the transportation of energy, raw materials and other bulk cargo.
