Yunnan Promotes Belt and Road Connectivity for Pilot Free Trade Zone
03 July 2020
The Yunnan Provincial People’s Government recently issued guidelines to support the development of the China (Yunnan) Pilot Free Trade Zone (Yun Zheng Fa No. 15 [2020]). The document calls on all local governments and units in the province to widen their investment and financing channels and strive to build clusters of strategic emerging and cutting-edge industries. It is intended that Yunnan will become an important node connecting China’s Belt and Road initiative to the Yangtze Economic Belt, and an open thoroughfare and bridgehead for ties with South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean regions. The main points covered in the guidelines are as follows:
- Greater autonomy in making reforms
- Development of industry clusters
- Support for financial opening-up
- Creation of an environment favourable to attracting international talent
