China Promotes Development of National Technology Innovation Centres

On 23 March, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued a circular (Guo Ke Fa Qu No. 70 ) announcing arrangements for the construction of a number of national technology innovation centres by 2025. Breakthroughs will be made in key technological bottlenecks that hamper industrial safety, and first-class companies with core innovation capability will be fostered and strengthened. Steps will be taken to hasten the growth of important industries that are led by technology innovation, have high economic added-value and play a strong leading role and form regional innovation high grounds that can play a significant leading and driving role in a bid to provide powerful support to the building of a modern industrial system, the realisation of high-quality development and the acceleration of the building of an innovation-oriented country and a world-class science and technology powerhouse. The innovation centres will seek to convert science into technologies and promote the commercialisation of major achievements of basic research.
