SAUDI ARABIA: Import Tariffs Hiked on 99 Product Lines

29 June 2022

Saudi Arabia has increased import duties on 99 product lines, in effect from 12 June 2022. The main product lines affected are live animals, foodstuffs, mineral, chemical, plastic and glass products, aluminium, various machinery, industrial equipment, electrical equipment, and vehicles. The new rates comply with World Trade Organization regulations.

New import rates range from 5.5% to 25% depending on the item. Electrical equipment such as air conditioners, vehicle equipment, and vehicle parts like radiators and chassis, are now subject to 15% tariff, rising from previous rates of 12%/5% and 12%, respectively. Duty for chemical products such as magnesium oxide and phosphoric acid has increased to 15%, from 5%. Zero-rated goods such as certain live animals and vegetables such as aubergines, onions, cucumbers, carrots and tomatoes are now subject to rates of between 7% and 15%. Other foodstuffs such as fruit juices, fish and shrimp, attract rates between 6% and 15%. A full list of rate changes published by the tax authority is available here (in Arabic).
