China Strengthens Supervision of Pollutant Discharge Permits

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently announced plans to reform the country’s pollutant discharge permit system. A law-enforcement supervision system for stationary sources of pollution will be established by the end of 2023, with the pollutant discharge permit system playing a dominant role. After this, key polluting sectors will be inspected using a positive list system which will be fully in place by the end of 2025.
