This summer, new ecodesign requirements began to apply to business-use refrigerators in the EU. As set out in Commission Regulation 2015/1095 which was published in the EU’s Official Journal just over a year ago on 8 July 2015, the Regulation establishes ecodesign requirements for the placing on the market of professional refrigerated storage cabinets and blast cabinets. On 9 March 2016, a study into the compliance of energy labels on electrical and electronic goods reported that more than 40% of labels were either incorrect or missing. Hong Kong companies familiar with the energy labelling of electrical appliances for the EU market will recall that most electrical and electronic equipment sold in shops are required, under the relevant EU laws, to display energy labels on the outside of their packaging. Use of the Triman Mark became obligatory in France as from the beginning of 2015. However, a report published on 28 April 2015 shows that, despite this obligation, the Triman Mark is only being used 20% of the time. The Report was published and prepared by the French consumer watchdog, the Federal Union of Consumers (UFC) Que Choisir. More

Hong Kong traders exporting footwear to Turkey may like to know that new labelling requirements, concerning the materials used in the main components of footwear for sale to the consumer, have been adopted. The rules are laid down in the Regulation on the Labelling of Materials Used in the Main Components of Footwear for Sale to the Consumer, published in the Turkish Official Journal, No. 29337, dated 25 April 2015.
