The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), which was first established 60 years ago, has brought this year’s celebratory spirit into the wider community with a specially themed tram weaving its way through Hong Kong Island’s towering skyscrapers and vibrant streets.
The tram, displaying the HKTDC’s anniversary theme ‘Connect the World, Shape the Future’, symbolises the Council’s continued role in linking Hong Kong – an international hub for business, trade and finance – with the global market.
Senior HKTDC leaders and management, including Chairman Prof Frederick Ma and Executive Director Sophia Chong, gathered for a memorable photo session with the striking tram yesterday.
The Council has planned a series of community-wide activities to mark its 60-year milestone this year. These encompass art co-creation events, ticket giveaways for popular fairs and a curated exhibition on HKTDC's six-decade journey to the present day and beyond, among others.
At the same time, the ongoing 'Design Gallery: 60 Celebratory Deals' campaign will launch its third round of promotions next month at the Design Gallery's store in Wan Chai, offering 40% off select items. This follows similar offers in May and June.
Featured items in July include: a coin and card holder from Cardhoda, which specialises in stylish RFID-blocking wallets; a Hong Kong skyline washi tape set from Ditto Ditto, a boutique stationery studio; a toile bone china mug collaboration between interior design firm Faux and Mariko Jesse, an illustrator and printmaker; distinctive ‘Weaving the Future’ socks from specialist designer Pair Pair Full; and a stainless steel timepiece from watchmaker TACS.
A branded mobile truck called Design Gallery on the Move also toured Hong Kong in May and June, showcasing more than 60 products from 36 homegrown brands as part of HKTDC’s ongoing commitment to supporting local talent.
One of this year’s biggest celebratory events took place last month. Past HKTDC Chairs Victor Fung, Peter Woo, Jack So and Vincent Lo gathered on stage with Prof Ma, the current Chairman, to assess the changing economic and trading landscape, at the Next 60 Forum in Hong Kong.
Lydia Dunn, another former Chair, shared her thoughts in a pre-recorded address.
This was followed by a cocktail reception, attracting more than 1,000 esteemed guests, including senior government officials and business leaders.
