WHY: Hong Kong and the UK have long had close business ties. In 2020, Hong Kong was the UK’s 12th largest trading partner in the world and second largest in Asia (after only Mainland China). Over the years, Hong Kong has also been the business hub connecting the UK and the mainland. About 6.8% or US$6.3 billion of total trade between the two economies were routed through Hong Kong in 2020.
