WHAT: A coming webinar will discuss the benefits of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) and Mainland China’s enormous import demand. The COVID-19 pandemic and consequent decline in demand worldwide are having an impact on the global supply chain, while there is continuing trade friction between the mainland and the United States. As a result, many Hong Kong-funded and mainland companies have reviewed business in the region to improve supply chains and production capacity. Relocating production and procurement activities to other regions, especially in neighbouring Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, is a key focus area. The mainland is also actively encouraging imports, hoping to introduce global commodities to meet strong demand for high-quality consumer goods. Hong Kong companies can consider using tariff concessions offered under the CAFTA  framework to sell goods produced or purchased in ASEAN to the mainland. WHEN:

Mr Chu heads the HKTDC Research Department’s Business Advisory Unit. Supported by business advisors seconded to the HKTDC from mainland government departments, the Unit partners with a number of institutions in Hong Kong and the mainland to provide information services to the public on trade-related issues through various channels, such as seminars and workshops.Another speaker is Ming Yau, Inspector, Free Trade Agreement Transhipment Facilitation Unit, Ports and Maritime Command, Customs and Excise Department. Mr Ming oversees the operation and promotion of a scheme that helps transhipment cargo in Hong Kong to benefit from preferential tariffs.The third speaker is Chen Xueping, China Business Advisor, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce (currently seconded to the HKTDC). Ms Chen serves as a resident China Business Advisor at the HKTDC Business Advisory Unit.
