China Lifts Ban on Pet Food Containing Ruminant Ingredients from US

The General Administration of Customs (GAC) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs recently made a joint announcement to lift the ban on imports of pet food containing ruminant ingredients from the US (GAC Announcement No. 30 ). Based on the results of risk assessments, pet food containing ingredients derived from ruminants from the US that comply with relevant Chinese laws and regulations is now allowed to import into China. The new rule supersedes restrictions imposed by the former Ministry of Agriculture and the former State Administration for Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine (Announcement No. 143 ). The requirements for inspection of pet food exported to China from the US will be formulated and announced separately in due course.
