Social Insurance Available for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Residents Working in Mainland

As of 1 January 2020, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents legally employed in the mainland will join a range of social insurance mechanisms. Those employed by enterprises, public institutions and other employers registered in mainland China will participate in the basic old-age insurance for employees, basic medical insurance for employees, work-related injury insurance, unemployment insurance and maternity insurance in accordance with the law. Social insurance contributions will be made by the employer and the individual, as stipulated in relevant provisions.
Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents legally engaged in individual businesses, or in flexible forms of employment on the mainland and having obtained residence permits for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, may participate in the basic old-age insurance and basic medical insurance for employees, according to relevant provisions in the place of business registration (place of residence).
