Mexico Proposes Revisions to Mandatory Standards for Certain Tyres
03 September 2019
Mexico is seeking public input by 27 October on a proposal (PROY-NOM-086-1-SCFI-2018) to amend the current mandatory standards for domestically-produced and imported new radial tyres for vehicles with a gross weight exceeding 4,536 kilogrammes (10,000 pounds), tyres of diagonal construction for vehicles of any weight, as well as radial and diagonal tyres for temporary use. Excluded from the scope of this standard are tyres for vehicles with a gross weight lower than 4,546 kg; tyres for race cars, motorcycles, and three-wheel and four-wheel all-terrain vehicles; and tyres for agricultural use, industrial use, or snow or off-the-road use.
The proposal would adopt revised requirements regarding, among other things, tyre classification, technical specifications, sampling, commercial information and conformity assessment. They would enter into force 120 days from the date of publication of a final rule in Mexico’s official journal.
