Argentina Adopts Mercosur List of Permissible Ultraviolet Filters in Personal Hygiene and Cosmetic Products
24 December 2018
Argentina has incorporated into its domestic legal regime Mercosur Common Market Group Resolution No. 44/15 establishing a list of ultraviolet filters allowed in personal hygiene products, cosmetics and perfumes. Mercosur member nations had originally been given until 31 May 2016 to incorporate this regulation into their respective domestic legal regimes, which will now enter into force 30 days after the Mercosur Secretariat notifies member states that all the required domestic legal procedures have been completed Mercosur-wide.
The list of permissible ultraviolet filters includes 39 substances together with their authorised maximum concentration, including such substances as camphor benzalkonium methosulfate, terephthaylidene dicamphor, sulfonic acid and salts, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, octocrylene, cinoxate, benzophenone-8, methyl anthranilate, tea-salicylate, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, benzophenone-3, titanium dioxide, ethylhexyl salicylate, ethylhexyl triazone, zinc oxide, and tris-biphenyl triazine.
