Brazil Lowers Duties on Three Products
02 August 2018
Brazil has temporarily lowered its import duties for certain lithium-ion cells, fire-fighting vehicles and high tenacity polyester staple yarn.
Brazil has amended its list of exceptions to the Mercosur common external tariff to provide duty-free treatment through 31 December 2021 to (1) lithium-ion cells for electric accumulators classified under NCM 8507.60.00, and (2) certain fire-fighting vehicles classified under NCM 8705.30.00. Separately, Brazil has established a tariff-rate quota for up to 4,200 tonnes of high tenacity polyester staple yarn classified under NCM 5402.20.00. In-quota merchandise will benefit from a reduced two percent duty for a period of six months, while out-of-quota shipments will face the regular 18 percent MFN duty.
